    PORTHOLE BML4

Porthole is a very impressive looking window, which can be mounted in external and internal doors. The name comes from the English word "bull's eye", i.e. the eye of a bull, and is usually associated with portholes used on ships, yachts or other vessels.

What are portholes and where are they used?

Porthole is a small, round window placed in the side or in the wall of a ship. In case of ships, portholes can be opening or mounted permanently. They should be completely watertight and extremely robust to withstand the impact of the waves. Therefore, the glass used in portholes is very thick - it can have even up to 30 mm and is set on a massive frame. Portholes that are placed close to the water line can be closed with special flaps and screwed on. This type of protection is used in case of approaching storms. Portholes are such impressive decorative elements that we can find them also in places other than ships - for example they look very interesting in mailboxes. Portholes can also be an interesting decoration when placed on the wall. Steel fittings with screws can be also used as unique mirror frames.

Elegant portholes

Portholes can be installed in doors as an attractive decorative element. The glass used in them is thick, so the porthole door can be mounted either inside or outside the building. Metal borders blend well with wood and can be an interesting element in case of interiors maintained in a modern style. Portholes fit virtually any door thickness. In POL-SKONE offer you'll find portholes with different widths, styles of the ring and types of glass. Porthole is an interesting alternative to the standard glass in the door - massive steel clamps add some elegance to the door, which makes them look more interesting.
